Galveston College Scholarships

Galveston College is committed to providing scholarship opportunities to deserving students by seeking funds from individuals, businesses, organizations, and college resources.  The criteria for eligibility and the award amount for these scholarships has been developed in cooperation with each scholarship sponsor.

The scholarship program at Galveston College encourages graduating high school seniors, transfer students and currently enrolled students to apply for scholarship monies.  Awards range from $500 to $2,500 per academic year.  Academic excellence, financial need, displayed leadership abilities and participation in extracurricular activities are taken into consideration during the award process.

Galveston College scholarship applications will be matched with the individual scholarship criteria.  Students are required to submit only ONE application to be considered for every scholarship.

  1. Fill out the complete application.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  2. Complete all personal contact information and optional information to be considered for all scholarships.
  3. List your current GPA (grade point average) and attach a copy of your current high school or college transcript.
  4. List your major or program of study.
  5. Attach two letters of reference.  Some suggested references are: employers, teachers, other school officials (high school or college), social worker, counselors, ministers, and civic leaders.  Letters of reference must be on professional letterhead.
  6. It is highly recommended that you complete a FAFSA application at StudentAid.gov
  7. Submit all of the required materials by the due date.  Late applications will not be considered.

The Clelie Ann Moore Ceramics Scholarship supports students passionate about ceramic arts. Awarded each spring semester, this scholarship provides financial assistance to a full- or part-time student enrolled in a ceramic arts class at Galveston College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in a ceramic arts class (full- or part-time)

Founded by Jean Thompson and her daughter, Dr. Barbara Thompson, this scholarship supports students with a strong interest in the field of Psychology.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate a clear interest in psychology
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Must be enrolled at Galveston College as a full-time or part-time student

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books

This scholarship provides the opportunity for students to pursue their passion for psychology and further their education.

Established in 2022 in memory of John H. Clyburn, this scholarship supports students pursuing studies in nursing, health sciences, or history at Galveston College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in a semester credit hour degree program in nursing, health sciences, or history
  • May be full-time (at least 12 credit hours) or part-time (at least 6 credit hours)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and meet Galveston College’s academic progress standards
  • Eligible for a second-semester award or to apply for a second-year award
  • Financial need is not required for eligibility

This scholarship honors John H. Clyburn’s legacy by supporting students dedicated to advancing their education in these impactful fields.

Established in 2008 to honor longtime Galveston College Professor of Music, Dr. Larry Patton, this scholarship supports students with a passion for music.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Funds may be used for tuition and fees

Preference given to students enrolled in music courses

Established by M.T. "Bujo" Waddell, a former professor and Galveston College Foundation Board member, this scholarship supports students pursuing studies in social or behavioral sciences that could lead to teaching opportunities at the high school or college level.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a field of study leading to a degree in social or behavioral sciences with teaching potential
  • Must have completed at least 24 semester credit hours (dual-credit hours are eligible)
  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Must maintain at least 12 semester credit hours
  • Must meet Galveston College’s academic progress standards
  • Eligible for a second-semester award or to apply for a second-year award

This scholarship honors M.T. Waddell’s dedication to education by supporting future educators in the social and behavioral sciences.

Established by the Hodge family in memory of Galveston College Associate Professor of English, Michael Hodge, this scholarship supports students pursuing degrees in the Humanities or Social Sciences.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 semester hours (full or part-time)
  • Must be pursuing a degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books.

Established by the Murillo family, this scholarship recognizes students with a passion for the arts or humanities.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 semester hours
  • Must be enrolled in an arts or humanities class
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books

The Sarah and Harry H. Levy Memorial Scholarship supports students with a passion for the Arts and Sciences who plan to transfer to a four-year academic program.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must have a degree plan focused on the Arts and Sciences
Preference given to students pursuing industrial, visual, or technical arts

The Windle Vocal Fund Scholarship supports students passionate about the performing arts, with a focus on voice or choral training.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a career in the performing arts (voice or choral emphasis)
  • Must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours per semester (full or part-time)
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.2 GPA

 

Established in 2022 in memory of John H. Clyburn, this scholarship supports students pursuing studies in nursing, health sciences, or history at Galveston College.

Established by Marianne Duncanson in memory of Letha M. Camp, this scholarship supports students enrolled in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) classes at Galveston College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a high school graduate
  • Must be enrolled in a credit course for EMT-Basic, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic certificates
  • Preference given to students affiliated with Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department EMS

Scholarship application and required materials must be submitted to the EMS Program Director

This scholarship honors Letha M. Camp’s legacy by supporting students committed to emergency medical services.

Created in honor of Trudy Jordan’s dedication to women’s sports in Galveston, this scholarship recognizes Whitecaps Softball players who demonstrate leadership both on and off the field.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a GC Whitecaps Softball player
  • Must exhibit leadership on and off the field
  • Funds can be used for tuition, fees, and books

This scholarship supports dedicated athletes in the GC Whitecaps Softball or Volleyball Program who are committed to both their sport and academics.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a full-time student
  • Must be enrolled in the GC Whitecaps Softball or Volleyball Program
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA

Funds can be used for tuition, fees, books, and educational materials.

 

The Ben & Marjorie Brown Trust Scholarship supports Galveston County residents who demonstrate financial need while pursuing their education at Galveston College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of Galveston County, Texas
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 semester hours (full or part-time)
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books

Created in memory of Carroll G. Sunseri, who served as the longest-serving member of the Galveston College Board of Regents, this scholarship supports students with non-tuition-related needs. Mr. Sunseri dedicated 32 years to his position and is honored through this scholarship.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien
  • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Must demonstrate financial need

Funds may be used for non-tuition needs, including childcare, transportation, parking, equipment, uniforms, books, and licensure exam fees

One scholarship per semester, awarded to one student in the amount of $500-$1,000

This scholarship helps students meet essential educational costs beyond tuition

Funded by generous individual donors and area businesses, the Galveston Community Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of loved ones while supporting Galveston College students in achieving their academic and career goals. This scholarship provides financial assistance for tuition and fees in any academic or vocational-technical program leading to an associate’s degree or certification.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing an associate’s degree or vocational-technical certification
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • The scholarship may be renewed annually until graduation or program completion
  • Faculty recommendation required for second-year awards

Created in 2008 through the generosity of the Greater Texas Foundation, this scholarship supports Galveston College students who demonstrate financial need.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate financial need

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books

Established in memory of Ingrid Greenwood, Margaret Mills, and Mary Pattinson, this scholarship supports full-time students from Galveston who are enrolled in a degree or certificate program.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a full-time student (enrolled in 12 semester hours)
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must be a resident of Galveston
  • Must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA

Established by Griff Lambdin, a charter member of the Galveston College Board of Regents, in memory of his son, Marc, this scholarship supports students who demonstrate financial need and are pursuing higher education in the Galveston College district.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a resident of the Galveston College district
  • Must have a degree plan on file with the Galveston College Counseling office
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books.

Established by Mark T. and Pamela Lohec Stasney and family, this scholarship supports Galveston College students pursuing an associate degree or technical certificate.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in an associate degree or technical certificate program
  • Open to full-time and part-time students
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and course supplies

This scholarship provides valuable support to students working toward their academic and career goals.

Named in honor of Janice D. Stanton, who served on the Galveston Community College District Board of Regents from 1983 to 2004, this scholarship recognizes students who are actively involved in community or social service projects in Galveston.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate clear involvement with community and/or social service projects in Galveston
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and educational materials.

Established by John Cannady in memory of his wife, Joan Cannady, this scholarship supports Galveston residents who are enrolled in a degree or certificate program at Galveston College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours
  • Must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must be a resident of Galveston
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA

Established by Deacon Tom Hunter, the Board of the Lasker Home for Children, and friends of Ms. Laura Mae Elrod, a respected retired teacher in Galveston, this scholarship supports students who are committed to their education and demonstrate financial need.

  • Must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program

Established in memory of Richard Lovelace and Laura Bragg McDaniel, and in honor of Neils Nielson, this scholarship supports students with a passion for music at Galveston College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester
  • Must be taking at least one Galveston College music course
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA

Founded by former NBA Champion and Houston Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich and his wife, Sophie, this scholarship supports students in the Galveston/Houston area who demonstrate financial need and a strong commitment to higher education.

  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 semester hours
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA

Established by the Galveston College Faculty Council in memory of charter faculty member William Maury Darst, this scholarship supports full-time students who demonstrate financial need.

The Beverly and David McCormick Endowed Scholarship supports students dedicated to advancing their careers in nursing by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in the BSN program at Galveston College

This scholarship program is designed to recruit academically exceptional students into the field of nursing and health sciences. The awards are distributed to deserving well-qualified, full-time students who wish to enter nursing or health sciences programs.  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and meet other specific requirements.

The Lawrence J. Del Papa Memorial Nursing Scholarship provides support to students enrolled full-time in the Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) program or the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Technical Level 2 Certificate program.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled full-time in the ADN (two-year program) or LVN Technical Level 2 Certificate (18-month program)
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, licensing and testing fees, and program-specific equipment

The Lipson Trust Scholarship supports dedicated students pursuing careers in nursing or teaching, honoring the Lipson Family’s values of inspiration, service, and healing.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a nursing or teaching career
  • Must be a second-semester college student
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must submit a 250-500 word essay outlining personal and professional goals and how they will serve the community
  • A letter of reference from a program director or advisor is encouraged

Established by Drs. Robert and Patricia Beach in honor of Monica C. Ruiz, this scholarship provides financial assistance to students pursuing a nursing degree at Galveston College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a nursing degree
  • May be full-time or part-time but must maintain at least 6 credit hours
  • Must be in good standing with Galveston College
  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
    Preference given to:
    • U.S. citizens
    • Residents of the City of Galveston for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the award
    • Students demonstrating financial need, if other criteria are met

Established by Mrs. Norma Rubin in loving memory of Dr. Sanford "Sandy" Rubin, this scholarship provides financial support to students pursuing a credit-hour degree program in Nursing at Galveston College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a credit-hour Nursing degree program
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and meet academic progress standards
  • Open to all students—U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is not required
  • Eligible for a second-semester award or to reapply for a second-year award

The Galveston College Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee makes award decisions.

Established by St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary in memory of Sister Mary Agnesita, this scholarship supports students enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program. It provides financial assistance for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and nursing uniforms.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a full-time student in the Associate Degree Nursing program (ADN)
  • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Must submit two letters of recommendation from nursing faculty

The Betty M. Schocke Charitable Foundation is a private trust that supports Galveston College students who are dedicated to their academic and community involvement.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours
  • Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Preference given to students pursuing business administration, accounting, or elementary/secondary education
  • Must submit one letter of reference from a civic or community organization

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books.

Established by the Edmonds Foundation in memory of Gene Nelson, Clair Singleton Craft, and Mrs. Gladnie O. Parker, this scholarship supports students pursuing a career in teaching.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing a teaching career
  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA

This scholarship honors the legacy of these individuals by supporting future educators as they work toward their teaching careers.

Established in memory of Mr. Fred B. Lane by Galveston College faculty members Don and Janene Davison, this scholarship supports students pursuing a business major.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a declared business major
  • Must have completed at least 30 credit hours
  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA

Designed to support aspiring chefs and culinary professionals, this scholarship is available to second-year Culinary Arts students who demonstrate financial need and a passion for their craft.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a full-time Culinary Arts student
  • Must be in their second year
  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must submit two letters of recommendation:
    • One from a faculty member or employer
    • One from a personal reference

Funds can be used for tuition, fees, and books

The Lipson Trust Scholarship supports dedicated students pursuing careers in nursing or teaching, honoring the Lipson Family’s values of inspiration, service, and healing.

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books.

Created in memory of Olga Olson, this scholarship honors her legacy as both a dedicated professional cook and a remarkable individual. It is designed to support Culinary Arts students who have demonstrated academic commitment and perseverance.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have completed at least 30 credit hours toward a Culinary Arts degree
  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
    Preference given to single parents

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books

Created in honor of Mr. Vandy Anderson, this scholarship supports the growth and success of aspiring culinary professionals at Galveston College. It is awarded to outstanding Culinary Arts students pursuing an Associate Degree or a Vocational-Technical Certificate.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a Galveston College Culinary Arts student
  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours
  • Must be pursuing an Associate Degree or Vocational-Technical Certificate
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and required materials

Any remaining balance will be provided to the recipient(s)

Created through the generosity of the Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund in 2012, this scholarship supports students enrolled in Galveston College's Vocational Technical programs.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in one of the following Vocational Technical programs:
    • Electrical & Electronics
    • HVAC
    • Instrumentation
    • Medical Administration
    • Welding
  • Must submit a typed 150-word essay explaining how receiving the scholarship will help guarantee successful completion of their chosen program

This scholarship provides full tuition, fees, and supplies.

Scholarships are awarded through the faculty at the Applied Technology Center.

Established through the Trust Department of Moody National Bank, this scholarship supports students pursuing technical careers at Galveston College.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours
  • Must be pursuing a technical career
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, and books

Established by the Rasmussen and Murillo families, this scholarship supports second-semester Galveston College students pursuing an Associate’s Degree or a Vocational-Technical Level 2 Certificate.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled full-time and pursuing an Associate’s Degree or Vocational-Technical Level 2 Certificate
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA
Funds may be used for tuition, fees, testing fees, books, or program-specific equipment needs, including digital devices, uniforms, and more.

Established by Dr. Gary E. Wilson and Mrs. Diane Easter Wilson, this scholarship honors Mrs. Normagene Wilson and memorializes Mr. Finis Easter, Mrs. Frances Easter, and Mr. Cecil Wilson. It supports students pursuing degrees in the analytical and physical sciences.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have completed at least 12 credit hours
  • Must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Preference given to students pursuing degrees in fields such as engineering, math, biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, or information science.
  • Open to full-time or part-time students

Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and education-related software

The Texas Success Center Dual Credit Scholarship is the only Galveston College scholarship exclusively dedicated to supporting select Ball High School dual credit students.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a Ball High School student enrolled in dual credit courses
  • Provides financial assistance for tuition and fees
